The second staging of the AnyBet-backed Hubert A. Lawrence Memorial TT Classic delivered everything its growing reputation promised — packed stands at the UWI Gymnasium, Mona Bowl, five-set thrillers, and a couple of stories worth telling long after the last point.
Wolmer’s Boys’ student Azizi Johnson captured the Open Singles title, overcoming a first-set loss to defeat Logan Royes 9–11, 11–9, 11–5, 12–10. It was sweet redemption: at the inaugural 2025 tournament Johnson had fallen to New York-based Odingo Mitchell while hampered by cramps and fatigue.
On the women’s side, Gianna Lewis turned the tables on her younger sister Tsenaye Lewis, the 2023 national women’s singles champion, having also beaten national and Under-19 champion Keeara Whyte along the way.
“This is only the second time I’ve beaten her in a final!” — Gianna Lewis
Pembroke Hall TTC’s Rudolph Sinclair claimed the “B” Open Singles crown, beating UWI Games team champion and national representative Chris Lyn 11–4, 7–11, 11–6, 12–10, after rallying from two sets down to edge teammate Sean Wallace in the semi-final.
First staged in 2025 with the support of AnyBet, the event honours the late athletics broadcaster, analyst and author Hubert Lawrence — himself an accomplished table tennis player — and has quickly become one of the largest single-day table tennis tournaments in the English-speaking Caribbean.
